Project Runway: Episode 1 - Q&A with Beatrice Guapo

Tim Gunn, Heidi Klum, Michael Kors, Nina Garcia
Last Thursday's Project Runway premiered right in the heart of Times Square. Contestants were challenged to create a complimenting piece in addition to the design they were assigned to make before they arrived. Guest judges were Patricia Field & Lauren Graham.

Christopher Palu won with these two gorgeous dresses. Loved how that gown fluttered on the runway. He really manipulated the fabric beautifully.

My other personal favorites included Ven Budhu's design of this gorgeous bustier top & pleated flowy pants. The tailoring and attention to detail was so keen and both his looks were consistent together.

My other favorite was Dmitry Sholokhov's gown. Even though he's a bit quiet, his pieces really speak for him. I think this gown is amazing, and I love the sheer panel and the overall silhouette.

Unfortunately, Beatrice Guapo, known her knit fusion pieces, was the first designer to be sent home for the following two looks. Therefore, this week is my Q&A with Beatrice.

She still had a great time; her favorite moment on the show was finally "meeting Tim Gunn. He brings so much to show and presses his opinion. It was surreal to finally meet him." She was inspired to try out for Project Runway because she thought it would be a great opportunity to earn "more exposure", and thought it be the best shot to "try to make it to Fashion Week".

Would you audition again for the next season?
{Beatrice}: I'm open to it.

Looking back, what do you think you could have done differently?{Beatrice}: I would have designed more to my aesthetic. I feel like I wished I did more of what was on my [audition] rack -- I should have stuck with what I did best.

Out of the remaining contestants, who do you think will win this season?
{Beatrice}: I think it's too early to tell, but I do have a top 3. It's still really anybody's game.

She also spoke about how she had the worst case scenario playing in her head while standing on the runway in front of the judges. It was so she wouldn't have a "meltdown" when/if she left. Overall, she enjoyed her experience on the show and loved all of the designers. "I loved their personalities - they were funny; we were joking around a lot."

  19. Great interview! I must say, Christoper's gown was my favorite of the night, and I also loved what Dmitry did. I don't think Beatrice had the worst looks though, but she did deserve to be in the bottom.
